Supplemental Training
An excellent way for both Scouts and Scout Leaders
The Scouts Supplemental Training programs are an excellent way for both Scouts and Scout Leaders to learn new skills. There is a wide selection of courses, so there is sure to be something for everyone. These courses are a great way to build character and leadership skills and can help prepare you for success in life or improve your Scouts’ experience.
Required Training for All Registered Leaders:
Youth Protection Training. This must be completed before registration; recertification is required every two years.
Highly Recommend Training:
To be completely trained in your unit position, additional leadership specific training opportunities are available online. Each position has three additional training programs in total, about an hour and a half to complete entirely. Head to your “my learning” dashboard at My.Scouting.org to get started!
Supplemental:
Supplemental Training includes courses like Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills, Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation, Wood Badge, Trainer’s EDGE, Commissioner Training, Hazardous Weather Training, and so much more. Some of these courses are offered annually or semi-annually as in-person courses, and many others can be found online at my.Scouting.org “my learning.”
Required for Certain events:
Additional training may be required for special events such as Aquatic Activities or a High Adventure Base. For instance, Wilderness First Aid is required for at least one leader on a high-adventure trip to have; this course is taught in-person two times a year in the Ozark Trails Council. Another example, Safety Afloat for Water Activities can be taken online.
