100th Anniversary Celebration

The Boy Scouts of America is celebrating its 100th Anniversary in 2010. And the Ozark Trails Council would like to ask you to join us in our celebration.

Below are the activities we have planned to commemorate this great occasion.

National News:

Recognition Events:

~Honor all past council presidents of the Ozark Trails Council, Ozark Council, and Mo-Kan Council at the February 8th, 2010 Council Recognition Event.

~"Trail of Honor" to recognize volunteers, Scouts, partner organizations, and parents for their service to Scouting. Nominations in the first year are due May 15, 2010. Inductees will be recognized at the Springfield Cardinals Scout Night on August 15, 2010. (

Service:

~Scouting for Food is the annual food drive that Scouts do to give back to there communities. This event was held March 6 and 13, 2010.

~Centennial Conservation Project - Ozark Trails has partnered with the Conservation Department and the National Forestry Service. The goal is to have every Scouting unit sign up to plant 100 trees, donated by the Forestry Service, in their community. This will be kicked off with the planting of a "Centennial Tree" at the Springfield Service Center on April 22, 2010 and run through May 1, 2010.


Activities:
~Summer Camps 2010 will include a special program to commemorate the 100th Anniversary.

~First Pitch for Scouting - The game will be on Sunday, August 15th, the Springfield Cardinals, the AA farm team of the St. Louis Cardinals, will help the Ozark Trails Council celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America at the team's game on Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010. We also will have a Scout Band playing before the game (contact Ryan at pathfinderboyscoutband@gmail.com to sign up) and will honor the council's first 10 Trail of Honor inductees. One of our own Scouters will throw out the first pitch. The game will begin at 2:10 PM. Be at Hammons Field by 1:30pm. (

~Camping event to invite all current Scouts to participate as well as Scouting Alumni to come visit to reconnect with Scouting. Camporall is the term used for an event like this and will be held October 1-3, 2010 at Rutledge-Wilson Farm (
3825 W. Farm Road 146. Springfield, MO)

~"Shining Light Across America" - On the evening of July 31, 2010 the stage show from the National Jamboree will be transmitted out across the country and world. This can be done at large council venues, smaller unit events, or even individuals can access the transmission via the webcast version.

~A Scouting alumni gathering event.

~Camp staff alumni reunion will be held June 12, 2010 at Camp Arrowhead.

Scouts & Scouters Love Patches!

Program participants will earn recognition for making a difference in their communities due to their dedication to five of Scouting's core values: Leadership, Character, Community Service, Achievement, and the Outdoors. Through that commitment, participants can earn each of five award ribbons to display from our 100th Anniversary commemorative patch.

A Year of Celebration will take place from September 1, 2009 through December 31, 2010. The program is open to all Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturers, adult leaders, and Scouting alumni.
